Suicide resource for adolescents:
I think that adolescents will always have a multiplicity of problems placed upon them, because as we’ve learned in this class, adolescence is a very stormy and stress filled time in an individual’s life. So there will be both externalizing and internalizing problems that adolescents will be faced with. I think the problems that influence adolescents the most are internalizing problems and these, as a teacher, you aren’t able to help out much with since you aren’t trained as a counselor. I think the best thing a teacher can do is let the student know that you are there for them if they ever need to talk. I think it is also a teacher’s job to direct a student who needs help to someone that can help him or her. This can mean something as simple as referring them to the school counselor or letting them know about the GSA that meets every Tuesday at lunchtime.
