RESILIENCE IN ADOLESCENTS
What IS resilience? It means the capacity to develop normally under difficult conditions
On the website below, Dr. Ginsberg talks about resilience and how kids need confidence to be able to create resilience in their lives. He says that confidence comes from capabilities and knowing that you are good at something. He goes on to talk about the other 7 C's.
Dr. Ginsberg talks about the role of confidence in a child’s development and I would have to agree with him and claim that confidence is very important in self-development. However, he says that confidence is arrived at by competencies and being good at something and here I would have to disagree slightly with him. I believe that confidence isn’t only acquired through your strengths, but it is also acquired through your failures. Failures are an important aspect of developing self-confidence because they are such a fundamental aspect of life. To be able to handle your failures well, and not get too down about them, shows a healthy level of confidence in oneself. That being said, as a teacher I would encourage failures so that my students become comfortable with the idea of getting something wrong and aren’t too discouraged by it. I would foster an environment where successes and failures are both rewarded.
