Copyrights and copy wrongs
One important facet of being a good and thoughtful digital citizen is knowing when and how to cite your sources. Giving credit to an artist, writer, photographer etc. is extremely important when you are using their work. In fact, if you use somebody else's work without their permission- you are breaking the copyright law. Many people don't know the nuances of the copyright law- there are in fact many different ways artists can protect their work. Fair dealing and creative commons are just two of those ways. When working on any written article you will be referring to other people's work- that is how creativiy works! Art doesn't exist in a box- it is meant to be shared and explored. However, when using another's words, ideas, images, videos or pictures it is extremely important to let your reader know that you have done this. In other words, it is extremely vital to cite your sources.
